Harmony & Balance', is a virtual exhibition curated by Seyi Awotunde set to showcase 5 art pieces by 30 emerging Black, BIPOC and White artists in the NFT community for a total of 150 art works linked and available for purchase. This Three day exhibition will be held in an immersive interactive virtual gallery
.
This Virtual Exhibition marks a first for me, so I decided to go big or go home with an array of divers pieces to showcase larger projects and collections to come.
.
The NFTs showcase 5 pieces of dynamic art work that merge my traditional metallic acrylic portraits with digital edits. These works explore themes of Nostalgia and Afro-Futurism in relation to my childhood and style.

A Message to Nip

digital edit of nipsey Hussle

1) This piece marks the final 2/2 portrait paintings made by me to memorialize Nipsey Hussle. I wanted to bring something different to the table with this final piece; the digital animation edit features Producer Yemi's mix and a poem written and narrated by me.
.
The poem was written to remind the world of the legacy and mindset Nipsey left the youth, 'the Marathon Continues'.
.
The purchase of this NFT comes with the 4k version (with sound), and a video print as a digital frame; that displays an infinite loop of the animation (no sound)
.

Below is a shot from the first 1/2 Nipsey portrait paintings that was made into a 6 sec animation collected for 2.5 ETH.

Wall Street Wealth Prt 1 & 2

When I think of 'Black History' this notion of only talking about it during black history month is performative to the core, and I want to challenge that mindset.

This piece was created to preserve a piece of history; the past atrocities against my black ancestors that shall never be forgotten but rather encapsulated into the blockchain art canon.

Wall Street Wealth Prt 2

In collaboration with the talented recording artist Dap The Contract, I featured his 2015 song 'Blue'

1) because it's such a soulful rap ballad, that puts me in a trance every time.

2) It explained everything my artwork was trying to say.

interestingly enough I had initially made the first version of the artwork 1 year before turning into animation, and choosing the song.

Which was featured in a Yahoo article (September of 2020).

"I find that through art I can be an activist. I can share my political views and spread awareness about global issues because art has little to no bounds, and my imagination never stops. So, in turn, I am able to channel my opinions and thoughts through art. For instance, I collaborated with a producer and made a music video about the BLM movement, and created an illustration that highlights how the wealth of Wall Street was built on the backs of slaves."

.

Theres one part of the song that has resonated with me from the first time I heard it 6 years ago - " I wish heaven had visiting hours, I would send my grandma flowers" - I literally felt that, I also felt like; if you've ever experienced loss - which I assume most have - of someone near and dear to your heart, this lyric would hit too and I tried to capture that aesthetically.

On the other hand I used this 2 part piece to remind us of the thousands of slaves buried in Wall Street, the same Wall Street they built.

.

We begin at the African Burial Ground National Monument, in the heart of the financial district. On the corner of Duane and Elk, tucked behind the 34-story Ted Weiss Federal Building, a large granite monument stands in the middle of a tidy lawn.

.

.

The memorial pays homage to the 15,000 to 20,000 slaves and free black New Yorkers buried in the 17th and 18th centuries in the area bounded today by Duane Street, Chambers Street, Lafayette Street and Broadway.

.

The Wall Street Wealth part 2 visuals illustrates this aspect "why they killing our people? why they all look so pale?"

.

.

Until recently, the African Burial Ground’s existence was known only to specialist historians. It wasn’t until builders broke ground on the Ted Weiss Federal Building in 1991 and uncovered hundreds of graves that New Yorkers and the rest of the country began to hear about it.

- excerpt from the correspondent

I want this information to live on the block chain, to forever remind us of the history of ancestors past, as we move toward a new digital era; where black and brown people don't have to ask permission to be financially free but are allowed to thrive and survive as creative beings.

.

.

The distribution of wealth is and has never been equal, but as we rise with the growth of new digital currencies, we paint a new landscape of financial freedom, a paradigm shift we can start to pioneer.

This NFT piece is a 1 of 1 animation that will later have 5 still NFT images, it will come with an unlock-able digital frame that loops the time - lapse process and the 4k version.
