Transcending Collection

·

The ‘Transcending’ collection is an ongoing body of work that features Lizzy's traditional photography and portrait paintings going through a digital edit and/or an animation edit, which are then brought into the blockchain creating a new hybrid NFT.

There are three major concepts that influence this particular collection and they come from two films 'Inception' and 'The Matrix' connected with elements of Afro Futurism.

When it comes to the film 'Inception', the connection was made from the concept of a dream within a dream within a dream - an interesting psychological theme in the movie where viewers could see the transcending mind and dreamscape Metaverses mesh together. The same can be seen in my work, in regards to the multiple adaptations from the original state into the NFT state explained earlier - representing a transcendence into the blockchain Metaverse.

When it comes to the film 'The Matrix' which was originally written by a black woman named Sophia Stewart. The connection was made based on the visual themes - specifically the stream of black and green code that referenced the simulated reality created by AI technologies in the film. In the NFT art, the elements of numbers flowing into the figures represent the stream of code in the smart contract that make up the concept of an NFT.

Lastly, when it comes to the elements of Afro-futurism, It is important to provide a definition: Afro-futurism is a cultural aesthetic that explores the developing intersection of African diaspora culture with technology. The NFTs reference this concept of technology and code as well as a majorly black and brown subject's.

Each piece is a moving animation .

Nip Transcending

The first animation piece sold in the collection is called Nip Transcending for 2.5 ETH ~ $12,000 CAD. The piece was created from 2 part portrait series made by Lizzy to memorialize the late Californian rapper Nipsey Hussle - The Marathon Continues.

Pop Transcending

This piece was created after the passing of American Rapper Pop Smoke in 2020, it was made to memorialize and celebrate his legacy. The background features the Dior logo which represents the connection to the brand he was building and the song that I first connected to titled 'Dior'.

Pop Smoke was building a name for himself in the drill music scene and quickly became a house hold name in clubs and parties, as soon as songs like ' Shake the Room' or 'Welcome to The Party' came on the dance floors erupted and it was always such a good vibe. I hold on to those memories and poured those feelings into the portrait.

 Drizzy Transcending

This piece was made to celebrate the Toronto born music icon Drake AKA Champagne Papi. The reason he was chosen as a muse was because his story to success has been so unique and inspirational.

There was a time where Canadians were watching him act in the popular show Degrassi and we knew him as Wheel chair Jimmy, and to see how he has grown from that small time actor to Artist of the Decade acclaimed by Billboards is phenomenal.

I'd like to think that when we transcend we will all still be able to puff puff pass the J and this piece represents that.

This Series attempts to look through the eyes of the beholder, as it reveals the faces underneath the material through the mirror the model is holding.
I chose to use a heart shaped mirror because I was trying to reflect the literal image of self-love.
As coined by Marshall McLuhan “The medium is the message”. The medium in the case is the heart shaped mirror showcasing the covered face and how people see their reflections as true beauty, this medium influences the message through its form.

Mother Africa

.

Mother Africa was made to encapsulate the essence of black motherhood and what that means in context to the continent of Africa. the lines represented in the outline of Africa speak to the diversity of complexion across the continent.

In most African cultures; Nigerian specifically, mothers are known for carrying their newborns on their back with a wrapper piece of clothing, thats something my mother did for me and I wanted the piece to represent that.

The Eyes, Chico, they never lie.
This piece started off as part of a cosmetic brand - 1Daybeauty's campaign shoot, which I was the art director of. I was trusted in casting, creating the theme and some shots like this one.
This piece was very special to me because of how piercing and focused the eyes  are, it creates this connection between the viewer and the muse that is magnetic yet magical.

Alien Girl Loading

.

As the name suggests Alien Girl Loading represents my transcendence into the blockchain.
The Inception vibes translates my change into this new form, a form that is my full artist potential.

Sometimes I like to be in front of the camera as a model, and this piece and a few others was one of those moments.

Gems

This piece was heavily influenced by the afro- futuristic vibe. The gem covering the eye represents the abundance of truth, knowledge, and the unique experiences my eyes have seen so far - and how all of that has been like gems to my individual life journey.

The things we see through our eyes are very privileged as many people live without sight, are eyes are Gems that give us the ability to see everything the world has to offer and this piece atones to that sentiment.

Transcending

.

The Transcending piece was originally a painting made to celebrate Bad Girl Rhi Rhi (Rihanna). The reason I picked her as a muse is because like Drake I grew up listening to her music from the start of her career to the point it is at currently.

She has become a mogul entrepreneur in many different industries from beauty, lingerie, clothing, shoes and so much more - she inspires me daily To keep on going.

UPloading

.

This piece represents the non conventional but specific path into the metaverse. Like most people i've met in 2020, we have all recently found out about the NFT ecosystem very recently and quickly got swept up in it.

Like many artists the path we're on will lead us into new financial possibilities - uploading into the metaverse means a new life of abundance and opportunities.

This piece to me is like a magic trick, the figure is handing the viewer a figurative token that represents the digital tokens we see now.

The promise of a decentralized future of resource sharing for all, the pillar of web 3.0 technologies.
